|
|
Realizing the alarming growth of single parenthood in the society, the department helps widows and single parents find solace in a fulfilled life as they encourage one another through association by status and love of God.
This department is committed to programs that meet the needs of numerous neglected and rejected widows. To this end, weekly, fortnightly and annual meetings are organized for encouragement and empowerment material, spiritual, social and psychological.
The department, which started with 6 widows in Ibadan in the year 2000, now has about 640 members in Ibadan, Ile-Ife and Okemesi-Ekiti.

What we do for them?
Food items are disbursed to all the widows every month while refreshments are provided for every meeting. We give financial assistance to those with very urgent needs depending on availability of funds. Such financial assistance is in the areas of awarding scholarships to their children, starting small-scale businesses, payment of rents and provision of accommodation, payment of medical bills of sick widows etc.
In addition we arrange Easter and Christmas parties for all widows annually, so as to put smiles on their faces at such festive periods.
The widows are not just given fish toe at but they are taught to fish. It was because of this that the Tie and Dye unit of the department came into being on the 1st of July 2002. Here widows are taught how to make beautiful adires (colorful local fabrics). As soon as they graduate funds are provided for them to set up their own businesses. In addition to tie and dye some widows are taught how to make soap and pomade, which they later sell to earn money for themselves.

Healthcare:
Since the year 2001, the widows under the care of abundance ministries have received regular medical check ups. Our medical personnel hold a clinic every fortnight. We make appropriate referrals to either the State Hospital or to the University College Hospital.
